Melisa is familiar to JLKC since her time as a pupil.

Having graduated from the University of Leeds in the year of 2016 with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and after obtaining her Certificate in Legal Practice on her first attempt, Melisa had chambered under a firm which neighboured the JLKC KL office and would on occasion visit our KL office for our Commissioner for Oaths and Notary services.

Melisa was then admitted to the rolls of Malaysian Bar on 17th of July 2020 upon the completion of her pupillage where her long call was moved by the managing partner of the JLKC KL office, Yip Huen Weng.

Melisa joined the JLKC KL Office in October 2023 as a Legal Associate after having established herself as a formidable lawyer in practice. Melisa believes litigation to be her calling being a dedicated and passionate practitioner. At JLKC KL, Melisa is involved in all aspects of civil litigation, with a focus on construction related matters, including arbitration and adjudication, commercial and corporate disputes, in her diverse scope of expertise. Melisa thrives on acquiring knowledge and keeping herself abreast on legal updates and issues. Melisa is able to break down complex legal issues and apply her legal knowledge as a catalyst in providing practical and effective legal solutions for her clients. Melisa has handled civil litigation matters involving, but not limited to, defamation, matrimonial disputes, debt recovery, enforcement, trespass of land, post winding-up, and landlord and tenant disputes.

Melisa also delves in criminal litigation and is currently working with the Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) for criminal matters, as she holds on strongly to the belief that every one has the right to legal representation and every man is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. Melisa has appeared as co-counsel in Section 39B Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 26C ATIPSOM 2007 trial matters in the High Court of Malaya.

Melisa’s passions beyond the legal field extends to lifting, yoga, Muay Thai and outdoor activities such as climbing, running and walking her dog. Melisa has found much comfort in solo-travels to participate in her outdoor activities. Melisa is also now making efforts to motivate her colleagues at JLKC into paying more attention to their mental and physical well-being, efforts which has been positively received.
