Isabel Leong joined Josephine, LK Chow & Co. as an Associate in 2019. She works in the firm’s Dispute Resolution Department supporting the Litigation Team.
Isabel graduated from Northumbria University, Newcastle UK in 2018 where she completed her Bachelor-of-Laws Honours degree, Master in Law, Legal Practice Course (LPC) and Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC). She is also a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, London. Throughout her formative years in the UK, she gained valuable experiences and especially during the Legal Practice Course which offered her the opportunity to work in the Student Law Office (SLO), which offered legal advice and a representation scheme for clients. She acquired theoretical knowledge and skills from face-to-face interactions in the SLO. This also earned her the David Gray Solicitors’ Prize, the best performance student in the Student Law Office, in recognition for the live client work that she had achieved.
Isabel was called to the Bar as an English Barrister in 2017. Then, she commenced her pupilage in Messrs Teh Kim Teh Salina & Co in 2018 and subsequently was called to the Malaysia Bar in March 2019. She started practice as a conveyancing lawyer in Messrs Mah Kamariyah & Philip Koh before embarking on her career in litigation with JLKC.
Isabel is no stranger to the courts as her competitive streak is felt even at the badminton courts. She is a competent badminton player who has played at the state level in secondary school, represented Northumbria University and Malaysia Bar Badminton team in various competitions. She is also part of the Malaysia Bar Cross Country team and she has also earned a black belt (1st poom) in taekwondo where she competed at different level of tournaments. She hopes to inject, the same spirit of competitiveness and commitment that she has for sports, into her workplace currently.
